The new marina in Pula, more specifically the part of the harbor of Sveta Katarina that has been completed is now officially ready for use.
This marks an end to phase one in the process of the construction of the new marina which, at this points provides 262 wet and 42 dry berths. The rest of the construction of the Marina Polesana project is going with all possible energy.
The existing facilities on the island that are located in the middle of the marina have been renovated and repurposed into office and hospitality facilities, toilets and warehouse area. The whole project Katarina Monumenti started a few years ago and has several phases. The first phase also includes the the construction of parking area with spaces for 200 vehicles, the reconstruction of the bridge, the renovation of the waterfront along the piers, the land part of the cove of Monumenti and the facility on the island of Sveta Katarina.
Estimated value of the project was at first in the region of 60 milion Euro but it is highly likely that the costs will amount to a much higher figure. The construction of a nautical tourism complex is a part of the Brijuni Riviera programme that has been recognized as a project of special importance to the Republic of Croatia, the Istria County and the City of Pula.
The complex is situated on an area of 46 hectares that will soon boast two marinas with a total of 400 wet and 1100 dry berths, an upscale 200 beds hotel, shopping and dining facilities.
The construction of the hotel is a part of phase two that has started along with the completion of the marina. The future hotel is situated in the area of former dilapidated barracks that was built during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The construction of the second phase and the opening of the new hotel is expected by the end of 2023.
